2020, Thank You.

Thank you for depriving me of the ability to travel the world, but allowing my mind to wander off to places it’s never been.

Thank you for confining me to unprecedented social isolation, but affirming the value in genuine human connections.

Thank you for cancelling the concerts and music festivals that I love, but allowing me to feel gratitude for the wonderful opportunities I’ve partaken in over the years.

Thank you for instilling unprecedented “boredom” during lockdown, but firing up my drive to keep learning and understanding more about this world.

Thank you for pushing me to be the best possible version of myself, but leaving ample room to step back to appreciate the beautiful & humbling process of growth.

Thank you for providing me the clarity to understand that my petty first world problems are minute and that I come from a place of privilege to have the audacity to complain.

2020, Thank You.

Thank you for devastating the world with the abrupt loss of a prominent public figure and his daughter, but reminding us to cherish those we love, as nothing in life is guaranteed.

Thank you for overwhelming us with a sweeping global pandemic, but teaching us the importance of resilience.

Thank you for enraging us with the presence of egregious systemic racial inequalities, but galvanizing us through the powerful stories of collective action.

Thank you for rescinding a narcissistic “leader” who perpetuates hateful & divisive rhetoric, but forcing us to confront the work needed in creating a more compassionate & equitable world.

Thank you for making us realize that this world can be pretty inherently twisted, but showing us that humanity is stronger than it has ever been.

Thank you for reaffirming that there is always more to live for.
